Lesson Blocks

Automate learning using our online modular testing and grading system

*   Easily build or choose online modular workbooks from our online library. Workbooks can consist of movies, audio, or text followed by a short test.

*   Insert (one time) multiple class lists that contain each student's name and e-mail address. Next, schedule each workbook lesson needed for each class using the easy pull-down menu options.

*   Students receive assignments each day through e-mail. Their workbooks are graded automatically and you can instantly view the results.

Our Mission

We want our web site to be the one that teachers like you count on when you are struggling to construct your lesson plans. By sharing some of your lesson plans with those we've already accumulated from other teachers, you help our library grow. When you browse through our library you might find that perfect lesson you want to share with your class. All you need to do is add the "Lesson Blocks Assignment Number" to your "Schedule" menu page and the rest is automatic. Your students log-in to their e-mail each day to receive their assignments. After they complete their work, a short test is given to assure they understand the material. All tests are graded automatically and added to the "Grading" menu page which you can display at any time to see the results.

Regarding the lesson plans you've already created, you choose which ones to share in our public lessons library. Any lesson plans you want to remain private will remain private, such as lessons you've designed for your special teaching style. These may consist of notes to yourself, lecture material, etc. that you typically already have in your lesson plans. Generally, the lessons you share can be compared to a self contained workbook study guide complete with tests. These study guides may consist of standard text (reading material), graphic pictures, audio files and video files. It is up to you to decide which elements you include in your study guide lesson plans

Getting Started

First you must sign-up and create your free log-in account. Once you log-in you can browse the  lessons library. The lessons library is arranged by category (Math, English, etc.) with description names for each lesson contained within. The description name is made up of the classroom grade (1-12) or college level (100-500) followed by the lesson title and the "Lesson Blocks Assignment Number". (Here's an example of a lesson plan descriptive name: [004   Multiplying Fractions Lesson 5.   16,777,218].) If a lesson assignment doesn't already exist in our Lessons library a teacher can build their own lesson by clicking on the "Build" menu option and following the instructions. Once all the lessons needed are available a schedule can be produced for the students entered in the student e-mail list by clicking on the "Schedule" menu option. If extra credit assignments are allowed they can be added in the schedule settings. (A schedule can be as short as one day or as long as a full year.)

All workbook study guides are delivered online as web links for student access by special e-mails received by each student. The tests found at the end of the workbook study guides will contain the same questions for each student except the order of the questions will be randomly juggled to minimize cheating. The e-mails are sent out automatically as determined by the teacher in the schedule menu settings. The workbook study guides can be completed in class or at home depending on the teacher's preferences. The study guide tests are graded automatically to allow the teacher extra time to provide special assistance to students having difficulty understanding the material.

The e-mail addresses can be easily set up by the teacher who could use either a child safe e-mail site (such as http://www.lissaexplains.com/lissamail.shtml ) or any free e-mail site she prefers (such as http://www.gmail.com or http://www.hotmail.com ). Then the teacher would hand out the special secret user names and passwords to each student so they can access their e-mail account. Since the teacher holds the whole list of all user names and passwords it would be possible to supervise the usage of these e-mail accounts in whatever way is acceptable to the rules established by the school.
